In this lecture Ben Fine aims at stimulating interest for and explaining the relevance of Marxist Political Economy. Ben Fine dedicates the first half of his comprehensible lecture to the question on how mainstream economics became the way it is by explaining its key concepts and how those evolved during the past 150 years. While critically reflecting those concept he also emphasizes that mainstream economics does not consider historical processes. This is the point of departure on his presentation of the core terms and crucial categories of Marxist Political Economy: e.g. the production process and class relations (Part 1). Part 2 examines the consequences of the capitalist mode of production and its propensity to crises. Ben Fine illustrates this Marxist analysis with the example of the current crisis and explains current conditions for the accumulation of capital.

Ein reines Monopol (Mono - griech. monos = „allein“, „einzig“; Pol - polein = „verkaufen“) liegt immer dann vor, wenn viele Nachfrager (z.B. private Haushalte) genau nur einen einzigen Anbieter (z.B. Unternehmen) eines bestimmten Gutes bzw. einer bestimmten Leistung zur Auswahl haben, ohne Wahl auf ein Substitut (Ersetzung des Gutes bzw. der Leistung mit einer anderen).
Reines Monopol
Um das Thema ganzheitlich zu betrachten, werden in diesem Dossier zuerst allegemeine Aspekte der Nachhaltigkeit thematisiert, danach ein Bogen zum Kakaoanbau gespannt und zu guter Letzt thematisch passendes Material für die Schule vorgestellt.
Welcher Zusammenhang besteht zwischen der Kakaoproduktion und dem ökologischen Fußabdruck?
Werbung versucht sich das Streben nach Glück zunutze zu machen. Eine Verteufelung der Werbung als Konsequenz erscheint jedoch nicht sinnvoll, um die aktuellen ökonomischen, ökologischen und sozialen Probleme der Menschheit zu bewältigen. Vielmehr bedarf es eines Paradigmenwechsels beim Konsum und damit einhergehend beim Wirtschaften.

Das Dossier stellt einen guten, leicht verständlichen Einstieg in das Thema Sharing Economy dar. Hervorzuheben ist die abwägende Betrachtung des Themas sowie die Veranschaulichung an dem konkreten Fallbeispiel Foodsharing. Abschließend wird vorgeschlagen, wie das Thema im Schulkontext aufgegriffen werden könnte.

Individuals, the idea goes, have their own interests and preferences, and if we don’t include these in our theory we can’t be sure how people will react to changes in their economic circumstances and policy. While there may be social influences, in an important sense the buck stops with individuals. Understanding how individuals process information to come to decisions about their health, wealth and happiness is crucial. You can count me as someone who thinks that on the whole, this is quite a sensible view.
