Der Begriff „Subsistenz“ steht in seiner ursprünglichen Bedeutung für das „Bestehen aus sich selbst heraus“ bzw. Selbsterhaltung. Dies bildet den Bedeutungskern ganz unterschiedlicher Vorstellungen von „Subsistenz“ in der Fachliteratur (z. B. im Bielefelder Subsistenzansatz). Entgegen der üblichen Darstellungen soll „Subsistenz“ aber nicht z. B. auf Landwirtschaft, karges Leben oder feministische Aspekte reduziert sein, sondern für ganz unterschiedliche Wirtschaftsstile fruchtbar werden. Der modernen Subsistenzperspektive geht es vielmehr darum, Selbsterhaltung ganz allgemein als ein Grundmotiv des Wirtschaftens im theoretischen und praktischen (normativen) Rechtfertigungskontext zu thematisieren. Dafür sind aber begriffliche Spezifikationen notwendig.

Kernergebnis: Vor allem ökonomische Grundlagenveranstaltungen sind überwiegend orthodox ausgerichtet und prägen potenziell nicht nur Ökonomie-Studierende, sondern auch zukünftige Journalist:innen – und damit zentrale mediale „Gatekeeper“ für ökonomische Theorien und Perspektiven.

Our campaign for pluralism, including this series, have generally focused on ideas outside the mainstream on the basis that it gets plenty of attention already so we want to spend our time exposing people to alternatives. Nevertheless, mainstream ideas deserve some attention. On top of this, a curious feature of modern economics education is that some of the best ideas from mainstream economics are not even taught to undergraduates! Three common cognitive biases shown to influence human decision-making under a behavioral economics framework are considered confirmation bias, negativity bias, and optimism bias.
