Financialization, Central Bank Policies and Gender Biases
By conducting a discourse analysis (SKAD) in the field of academic economics textbooks, this paper aims at reconstructing frames and identity options offered to undergraduate students relating to the questions ‘Why study economics?’ and ‘Who do I become by studying economics?’. The analysis showed three major frames and respective identity offerings, all of which are contextualized theoretically, with prominent reference to the Foucauldian reflection of the science of Political Economy. Surprisingly, none of them encourages the student to think critically, as could have been expected in a pedagogical context. Taken together, economics textbooks appear as a “total structure of actions brought to bear upon possible action” (Foucault), therefore, as a genuine example of Foucauldian power structures.

Friederike Habermann präsentiert kollektive Projekte und Gegenbewegungen, die sich, u.a. in Reaktion auf ökonomische Krisen, dem kapitalistischen Produktionsprozess entziehen und erläutert, welches transformative Potential solche Projekten tragen. Ein besonderer Fokus des Vortrags liegt auf dem Konzept der Commons und sozialen Bewegungen in Lateinamerika. Zudem erläutert sie Herausforderungen solcher „Halbinseln gegen den Strom“.

Was ist unter Krise und was unter multipler Krise zu verstehen? Ulrich Brand erläutert, wie unterschiedliche Krisen – wie die Finanz- & Wirtschaftskrise, die Krise der Ökologie oder der Reproduktion - zusammenhängen und diskutiert Ursachen dieser mutliplen Krise mit dem vom ihm geprägtem Begriff der imperialen Produktions- und Lebensweise. Anschließend erwägt Brand, wie Wege aus der Krise aussehen könnten und greift dabei Konzepte wie degrowth und sozial-ökologische Transformation auf.

Neben alten und aktuellen Diskursen der Feministischen Ökonomik stellt Adelheid Biesecker deren Kritik am Ökonomischen Mainstream vor: das Denken in Dualismen und den Ausschluss von sozialer und ökologischer Reproduktion aus der Ökonomie. Dabei geht sie auch auf das Wissenschaftsverständnis feministischer Ökonominnen ein und erläutert unterschiedliche Bedeutungen von Gender in der Ökonomie. Aufbauend auf ihren Analysen stellt Biesecker Überlegungen zur Ausgestaltung einer zukunftsfähigen Wirtschaftsordnung und Konzepte wie Vorsorgendes Wirtschaften vor. Ein Fokus des Vortrags liegt auf dem Arbeitsbegriff und Care.

A Time for Precaution
This paper is a product of an online workshop held in Nigeria on the topic Unemployment: Policy Review and Recommendations. It explores the various unemployment policies introduced by the Nigerian Government and analysis how effective they are and suggests some practicable solutions to solving unemployment problems in the country.
