Snow removal, ambulance transport and school performance -- with the strategy of gender mainstreaming, a gender perspective is applied to all kinds of services that we provide on behalf of our citizens. In a new film, Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions shows how both citizens, municipalities, and regions can benefit from gender equality. The film aims at illustrating the principles of gender mainstreaming through concrete examples.
Indeed though concrete examples, this animated video demonstrated that gender mainstreaming, including the use of gender-disaggregated statistics, can raise higher quality in all services. It is looking at a gender perspective in all our day to day activities and seeking to improve management of government structures.
Comment from our editors:
This video is a good introduction to the way that a gender-sensitive framework can fundamentally change the approach of an economist or policymaker, and thus influence the distribution of public resources. It gives vivid, concrete examples, useful for those with little economics background.
This essay suggests to bring together two aspects of economic thought which so far have developed largely separately: degrowth and feminist economics. In this strive, the concept of care work and its role in feminist economics will be introduced and the downsides of the commodification of care work will be discussed. Subsequently, contributions to the discussion on the (re)valuation of care work will be taken into account.
This course has dual purposes, to introduce students to the various stages of research and to provide an introduction to feminist perspectives on the politics of producing knowledge. Each student will learn how to be an interdisciplinary researcher while coming to understand the opportunities that feminism presents as a way of seeing, knowing, and representing the world.
Departing from an analysis of women's employment and changing gender regimes in the pre crisis period, Jill Rubery illustrates how the crisis affects men's and women's employment differently. Afterwards, she discusses the crisis' impact on gender relations. Based on empirical findings, she shows how men were more affected by the recession and women more by austerity and presents possible explanations. Those are furthermore linked to women's employment decisions and prevalent gender regimes. In particular, Rubery discusses cut backs in public spendings on care, flexibilization and the role of conservative gender ideologies.
