Wie unterscheidet sich Wirtschaftsdemokratie von Mitsprache und kann über Wohlstand und Wachstum demokratisch entschieden werden? Alex Demirovic stellt im Rahmen der Ringvorlesung „Wohlstand ohne Wachstum“ Überlegungen zur Anwendung demokratischer Entscheidungen auf Produktion und Finanzmärkte an. Dabei hinterfragt er die Dichotomie von Markt und Staat und diskutiert, welche Folgen Wirtschaftsdemokratie für die Konzepte Eigentum, unternehmerische Freiheit oder Wettbewerbsfähigkeit hat.

What’s inflation? Why is it relevant? And is there an agreed theory about its roots and causes, or is it a contentious concept? That’s what this text is all about: We define what inflation actually means before we delve into the theoretical debate with an interdisciplinary and pluralist approach: What gives rise to it, what factors might influence it, and, consequently, what might be done about it?

One method of economic modelling that has become increasingly popular in academia, government and the private sector is Agent Based Models, or ABM. These simulate the actions and interactions of thousands or even millions of people to try to understand the economy – for this reason ABM was once described to me as being “like Sim City without the graphics”. One advantage of ABM is that it is flexible, since you can choose how many agents there are (an agent just means some kind of 'economic decision maker' like a firm, consumer, worker or government); how they behave (do they use complicated or simple rules to make decisions?); as well as the environment they act in, then just run the simulation and see what happens as they interact over time.

Was heißt Pluralität und warum soll Wissenschaft oder die Ökonomie plural sein? Mit diesen Fragen befasst sich Arne Heise im Vortrag „Wissenschaftstheorie und Pluralität in der Wirtschaftswissenschaft“. Dabei kontrastiert er die Auffassung von Pluralität und Paradigmen unterschiedlicher Denker, u.a. von Kuhn und Lakatos. Zudem unterscheidet er Pluralität von Variation, welche Pluralität innerhalb eines Paradigmas bedeuten würde. Die Argumentation erläutert er mit vielen Beispielen, u.a. welche ökonomischen Paradigmen er als plural und welche als Variation betrachtet. Im Anschluss präsentiert Heise eine Struktur zur Aufteilung von Forschungsprogrammen (Vergleich von Kernannahmen, Methoden und Heuristiken). Zuletzt geht Heise auf die paradigmatische Entwicklung der Wirtschaftswissenschaft ein, insbesondere auf die De-Pluralisierung der VWL seit den 1970er Jahren, was er anhand von Lehrstuhl Besetzungen ausführt. Der Vortrag bietet eine gut Möglichkeit, die Überlegungen hinter der Struktur von Exploring Economics nachzuverfolgen.
