After all, problems and imbalances have accumulated in the Western capitalist system over four decades, ostensibly since it took the neoliberal road out of the 1970s crisis and kept going along it, heedless of the crises and problems it led to. 2020 Level: debutante The Unexpected Reckoning: Coronavirus and Capitalism Radhika Desai Canadian Dimesion Exploring Economics, an open-source e-learning platform, giving you the opportunity to discover & study a variety of economic theories, topics, and methods. 2020 Level: debutante A Time for Precaution Cahal Moran Rethinking Economics Health Economics traditionally involves two distinct strands. One focuses on the application of core  neoclassical economic theories of the firm, the consumer and the market to health-seeking behaviour  and other health issues. It suggests a role for government intervention only in the case of specific  market failures (for example externalities, asymmetric information, moral hazard, and public goods)  that distort market outcomes. The second strand is evaluation techniques, used to assess the cost effectiveness of competing health interventions. 2022 Level: debutante Health Economics Julia Ngozi Chukwuma Summer Academy 2022 for Pluralist Economics With the onset of an economic crisis that has been universally acknowledged since the end of March, two main questions arise: To what extent is the corona pandemic the starting point (or even the cause) of this crisis? And secondly: can the aid programmes that have been adopted prevent a deep and prolonged recession? 2020 Level: debutante Economic crisis only because of the Corona pandemic? Jakob Schäfer Exploring Economics Stratification economics is defined as a systemic and empirically grounded approach to addressing intergroup inequality. Stratification economics integrates economics, sociology and social psychology to distinctively analyze inequality across groups that are socially differentiated, be it by race, ethnicity, gender, caste, sexuality, religion or any other social differentiation. 2021 Level: debutante Stratification Economics Tanita Lewis, Nyamekye Asare, Benjamin Fields Exploring Economics The premise of this workshop is that we, as knowledge producers - especially within westernized universities (Grosfoguel, 2013), are significantly implicated in neoliberal imaginaries that are often in service of hierarchical, binary, competitive and linear narratives of growth as civilizational progress. 2021 Level: debutante Decolonizing Economics Dr. Epifania Amoo-Adare Summer Academy for Pluralist Economics The Great Recession 2.0 is unfolding before our very eyes. It is still in its early phase. But dynamics have been set in motion that are not easily stopped, or even slowed. If the virus effect were resolved by early summer—as some politicians wishfully believe—the economic dynamics set in motion would still continue. The US and global economies have been seriously ‘wounded’ and will not recover easily or soon. Those who believe it will be a ‘V-shape’ recovery are deluding themselves. Economists among them should know better but are among the most confused. They only need to look at historical parallels to convince themselves otherwise. 2020 Level: debutante Origins & Emergence of the 2020 Great Recession in the US Economy Dr. Jack Rasmus Exploring Economics This module examines current socio-political issues through the lens of pluralism, that is pluralism of theory, pluralism of method and interdisciplinary pluralism 2020 Level: debutante Pluralist Economic Analysis Sophia Kuehnlenz Manchester Metropolitan University ¿Qué es la inflación? 2022 Level: debutante La inflación en la teoría económica Alexander Barta, Jorim Gerrard, Jakob Steffen & Frieder Zaspel Exploring Economics Mainstream inflation theories in economics do little to explain the recent acceleration in price increases. The associated economic policy recommendations further increase the misery of low-income groups. 2023 Level: debutante The inflation conundrum Thomas Sablowski Exploring Economics In this overview paper, Laura Porak reviews the history of industrial policy in the European Union before the background of a Cultural Political Economy approach. 2023 Level: debutante History of Industrial Policy in the EU Laura Porak Exploring Economics What’s inflation? Why is it relevant? And is there an agreed theory about its roots and causes, or is it a contentious concept? That’s what this text is all about: We define what inflation actually means before we delve into the theoretical debate with an interdisciplinary and pluralist approach: What gives rise to it, what factors might influence it, and, consequently, what might be done about it? 2021 Level: debutante Inflation in economic theory Alexander Barta, Jorim Gerrard, Jakob Steffen & Frieder Zaspel Exploring Economics The vast uncertainty surrounding the possible spread of COVID 19 and the duration of the near economic standstill required to combat it make forecasting little different from guessing Clearly this is a whatever it takes moment for large scale outside the box fiscal and monetary policies Carmen M Reinhart Project … 2020 Level: adelantado This Time Truly Is Different | by Carmen M. Stratification economics goes beyond myopic mainstream conceptualisations of discrimination and recognises the historical, institutional, and structural factors that create and maintain socioeconomic disparities and hierarchies. To critically approach the economics of discrimination, this workshop will focus on stratification economics, a systematic and empirically grounded approach to addressing intergroup inequality (Darity, 2005). Focusing on racial discrimination, we will discuss the core elements of stratification economics, critically evaluate its relevance, and apply these understandings to construct case studies and solutions for change. In our discussions, we will consider an array of topics, including intersecting oppressions, reparative justice, and the role of knowledge production in overcoming injustice and creating a better world. 2022 Level: debutante Economics of Discrimination Tanita Lewis Summer Academy 2022 for Pluralist Economics The term "de-risking" can be seen as one element of a strategy aimed at discursively reframing the trade policy confrontation with China.
