Auch wenn viele Ökonom_innen den Kritikpunkten zustimmen, wie die 2016 von dem Netzwerk Plurale Ökonomik und der Universität Kassel erstellte Studie EconPLUS aufzeigt, ändert sich die Lehre nur sehr langsam. Gegenstand der Studie ist eine vergleichende Bestandsaufnahme des aktuellen Profils und der zukünftigen Entwicklungstendenzen in der deutschen und US-amerikanischen Volks- wirtschaftslehre (VWL). Hintergrund ist die Frage nach einem deutschen Sonderweg in der Ökonomie. Hierfür werden die derzeit tätigen VWL-Universitätsprofessor_innen in Deutschland und den USA im Hinblick auf ihre thematische und inhaltliche Ausrichtung sowie auf ihr akademisches und außeruniversitäres Wirkungsspektrum untersucht.
Die Disziplin der Wirtschaftswissenschaften nutzt im Bereich der Verhaltensökonomik häufig experimentelle Spiele, um das menschliche Verhalten zu untersuchen, wie z.B. das Diktatorspiel. Mithilfe postkolonialer Analysemethoden untersucht dieser Essay am Beispiel eines bekannten Aufsatzes der Verhaltensökonomik von Henrich et al. 2001 zu indigenen Gemeinschaften, wie Wissen über menschliches Verhalten in wirtschaftlichen Kontexten konstruiert und kategorisiert wird.
Der Umbau zu einer nachhaltigen, CO2-armen und solidarischen Ökonomie erfordert besonders in der Transformationsphase massive Investitionen sowohl in Institutionen und Infrastrukturen, die ein sozial gerechtes Leben für alle ermöglichen (ökologische Landwirtschaft, dezentrale erneuerbare Energien, ökologisches Wohnen, kollektive Mobilität etc.) als auch in Projekte zur Anpassung an und Entschärfung von Klimawandel und ökologischen Zerstörungen sowie finanzielle Transfers vom globalen Norden in den globalen Süden, die aus der historisch angehäuften Klimaschuld folgen.
Um der Klimakrise zu begegnen, müssen wir unsere Art zu wirtschaften radikal verändern. Ein großes Hindernis auf diesem Weg könnte die vorherrschende ökonomische Theorie sein. Denn der neoklassischen Wirtschaftswissenschaft ist es methodisch unmöglich, alternative Wirtschaftsformen abzubilden. Außerdem führt sie zu Politikempfehlungen, die systematisch die Möglichkeit einer Postwachstumswirtschaft ausblenden.
Here we look at the effect of the 2008 Climate Change Act passed in Parliament in the United Kingdom as an effort to curb emissions in all sectors. The Act aside from setting goals to become a low-carbon economy sets up an independent committee on Climate Change to ensure the implementation of policies to comply with the ultimate goal of 80% reduction in total emissions in 2050. I make use of the Synthetic Control Method (SCM) to create a comparative case study in which the creation of a synthetic UK serves as a counterfactual where the treatment never occurred (Cunningham, 2018).

Dies deutet darauf hin, dass sich die grundsätzliche Kritik an den Lehrinhalten bis dato kaum zu einer Kritik an den einschlägigen Lehrbüchern weiterentwickelt hat (vgl. Urban/Van Treek 2016).
