In this article, the Harvard Business Review recognizes the arguments of the Degrowth vision and gives examples of businesses that have thrived following its precepts. The authors suggest three strategies that firms should put into action to be at the forefront of this movement. The article also gives a brief overview of what the degrowth is about and its main criticisms.

Comment from our editors:

Degrowth is starting to be taken seriously by mainstream economics, and this type of articles from well-known journals are putting the stepping stones to be considered a viable pathway. Economists and businesses tend to see growth as an absolute necessity, but as demonstrated in this article businesses can adapt to a more degrowth-friendly way of doing business.

Critics who argue that we just need a different kind of growth, neglect the issues related to green growth and the planetary boundaries that we must operate within to tackle the ecological crisis. Degrowth offers an alternative to waiting for technological innovation, that is yet to exist, to solve the crisis. The Degrowth movement puts the well-being of all in its centre by reimagining the organisation of society and the economy, and its values.
