Network Theory Introduction

Photo by Pietro Jeng on Unsplash
This course gives an introduction to basic topics of network approaches in economics. Without going into too much detail, it explains the basic intuition and concepts of mathematical graph theory and how these approaches help analytically capture economic phenomena of technology and information diffusion, financial stability and resilience, the complexity of trade networks and global value chains. The course starts with a general introduction and a crash course in the basics of graph theory, network topology and properties of different network structures and critical nodes of the network. In the latter parts, the course shows how these concepts help to understand and analyzing the dynamics of network evolution and diffusion within networks.
The material is one of a number of courses on different topics of complexity science provided by complexitylabs.io
